Superfood Sushi, Sydney

I thought about introducing a new category on my blog and finally the time has come to publish it! It’s ‘Vegan Travels’ and I will share some good places to check out if you travel. There are some really good vegan places all over the world, so it doesn’t have to be hard to eat vegan when going out 🙂 and there are more and more of them!!! So excited about this!

As first vegan place I want to present you Superfood Sushi (69-77 King Street, Newtown NSW 2042). I had the pleasure of spending a few hours there and having a lovely chat with Pepe Marshall. She and her son Guy run that wonderful place where vegans don’t have to ask for the ingredient list to make sure the meal is vegan. All dishes served in this restaurant are 100% vegan and cruelty-free. Another point which makes Supefood Sushi so special is that everything is healthy – Pepe also told me that there are quite a few vegan opportunities around but they are often not really healthy. In fact I DO miss the oppertunity to eat vegan AND healthy sometimes when I go out so this is the place to be!

I love the atmosphere in Superfood Sushi, all the colors and everyone is super friendly! “No fish were harmed in the making of this sushi” is written above the kitchen – big thumbs up for that! 🙂 They also offer catering with different kind of platters.

They served me different kind of sushi and I took loooaads of pictures 😛 every single sushi looks like a piece of art and is a feast for the eyes!IMG_9394

How beautiful does that look?! All the colors – ain’t nobody who can say vegan is boring when looking at this.

But now about the taste…IMG_9360

In the front you can see the special of October ‘Mango a gogo’. Every month they offer a special, in November it is ‘Keen Wah’, a quinoa miso base with asparagus, mushrooms, carrots and kale. Anyways the ‘mango a gogo’ is curried black rice with mango salsa and tastes utterly delicious. Slightly spicy it matches the curry and mango perfectly.

Next sushi was the ‘Cheeky Chi’, a inari pocket, rice-white kim chi and zucchini. Super yummy and $2 a piece!IMG_9374

Right behind the ‘Mango a gogo’ you can see the ‘Twisted Zucchini’. It’s turmeric soy gunkan, raw zucchini spaghetti, basil pesto and edamame. Guess what? Tastes delicious as well!IMG_9367

The ‘Black Jack’ was my favorite piece! It’s made of nori gungkan, black rice, jackfruit salad and kelp caviar. Super creamy and a MUST-TRY!!!IMG_9384

Pictured above the ‘mushroom soy’ and ‘super “salmon” ‘. As a big mushroom lover I inhaled the mushroom piece in one second. The Super “Salmon” is a beautiful presented watermelon nigiri.IMG_9362

Last but not least I had a ‘Mad ‘Bout Yuzu’ sushi roll with aaaaall my favorite ingredients: green rice, basil cherry tomatoes, yuzu avocado, spinach, mustard, red onion, black sesame and chili seaweed crisps (they make them in their dehydrator). The sushi is pictured below!

To put it all in a nutshell I had a great and absolutely delicious lunch over at Superfood Sushi without feeling tired like I do after having vegan junk food. I will come there again for sure and encourage you to drop by and grab some yummy cruelty-free sushi 🙂IMG_9412
